A Hand Up not a Hand Out

Many voluntourism organizations take an approach to raising funds and then go into communities to execute a project; quite often, school builds or rehabilitation projects and work are independent of the community.  While still a formidable and worthy need, there lies a gap between basic field support through volunteering and larger, more complex problems that need engineering guidance.

Winds of Change has a different perspective on its long-term project success. We believe in meeting with community members to scope the project and community capabilities, then go through many design iterations with local supply and design in mind. Once the project reaches design completion, the team travels to the site, presents to the community and works hand in hand with them to implement the project. With this approach, the community understands the technology and has buy-in to ensure long-term project support after handoff.
